Habitation Service

What is a habitation check

Habitation checks entail a thorough inspection of the habitation area of your motorhome or caravan. The habitation service is carried out by our specialist engineers. Out emgineers follow a set procedure and highly detailed inspection plan.
It covers dangers such as fire risk, ventilation and gas systems as well as problem areas like damp, water systems, electrical systems and bodywork. You receive a full report afterwards with observations of problems identified and action required.
If you go without using your motorhome for a long period of time it should still be brought in for an annual habitation test. Motorhomes left sitting unused for a long period of time are more prone to problems than those which get regular use.

We thoroughly check the following during a habitation service:

  • Underbody
  • Electrical Systems, including battery and lighting
  • Gas System
  • Water System
  • Ventilation
  • Fire and Safety
  • Bodywork including Damp test

Water ingress is the most under estimated factor in a motorhome or caravan. If the damp is not identified and cured in time, it will result in a costly repair bill.

Why do I need an habitation service

You really do need to have a habitation check done on your caravan or motorhome every year. Not only does your safety depend on it, so does your motorhome’s performance and resale value! If your motorhome is still under warranty, you’ll also need to have the annual check done promptly to keep your warranty.

If you’re already out of warranty, habitation checks become even more important, as a clear record helps maintain better and much higher resale value.

Please note: a habitation check or a habitation service does not include any inspection or servicing of the base vehicle, nor will it address any legal roadworthiness requirements. It is NOT an MOT, and will not substitute for an MOT.  However we can take care of any requirements should you need this service included as well.
